2022 Venice Biennale Fellowship Programme

I am extremely excited to be a part of the 2022 Venice Biennale Fellowship Programme, in association with the British Council.

This year, Sonia Boyce OBE RA has been commissioned to represent Great Britain at the 59th Annual Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia. Her work Feeling Her Way has won the Biennale’s Golden Lion prize for the best national pavillion. As part of the Fellowship, I will have the privilige of working within the pavillion, supporting visitors as they experience this outstanding work.

As part of the programme, I will also be working on my own creative/research project during my one month stay in Venice. All Fellows were tasked with producing a final piece of work that is related to the themes of this year’s Biennale, Sonia Boyce’s work or the British Pavillion itself. It has to be collaborative in approach and have a local community building aspect engagement so it can be shared or engaged with when back in the UK. Based on this criteria, I proposed to produce a zine that explores spaces within multicultural cities that aim to bring people together and bridge divides. I will be focusing particularly on the way that knowledge is carried across borders, in the form of books and libraries, as well as food and restaurants. This is a very brief overview of my project, and I look forward to sharing the process over the coming months on the blog.

For now, I am very, very grateful to have been given this opportunity, and am looking forward to having embracing this creative adventure.
